Axe Throwing

The Agassiz-Harrison Rod and Gun Club is excited to announce that we are in the process of introducing axe throwing as a new recreational activity for our members and guests. Initially, axe throwing will be offered during selected club events and open houses, providing visitors with an opportunity to experience this rapidly growing sport in a safe and supervised environment.

Axe throwing has deep roots in North American lumberjack culture, where woodsmen would test their skill by throwing axes at tree stumps and targets during downtime in logging camps. What began as a friendly pastime has evolved into a highly organized competitive sport enjoyed by participants of all ages and skill levels.

Today, competitive axe throwing is governed internationally by the World Axe Throwing League (WATL), the largest sanctioning body in the sport. WATL has established standardized rules, equipment specifications, and competitive formats that allow athletes to compete on a level playing field around the world.

The sport has experienced tremendous growth over the past decade, expanding into more than 50 countries with thousands of leagues, tournaments, and competitors participating annually. International championships attract competitors from across North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and beyond. The sport combines accuracy, focus, consistency, and friendly competition, making it accessible to beginners while providing a challenging experience for experienced throwers.

As our program develops, the club intends to follow recognized safety standards and best practices while exploring opportunities for recreational leagues, instructional sessions, and special events. Axe throwing is a natural addition to the club’s existing shooting sports and archery programs, offering another enjoyable outdoor activity for members, families, and guests.

We look forward to introducing our members and visitors to this exciting sport at future club open houses and special events.
